THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
The Department of Finance at the Faculty of Economics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv traces its pedagogical and scholarly inception to the Department of Financial and Monetary Relations, which was officially established in 1992.
The Department of Finance was organically developed and profoundly influenced by a succession of preeminent Ukrainian economic scholars, all of whom held the titles of Doctor of Economic Sciences and Professor, and included: A.S. Halchynskyi (1992-1993) – Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine. O.D. Vasylyk (1993-2003) – Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine. I.O. Liutyi (2003–present) – Honoured Economist of Ukraine.
The strategic imperatives for training highly skilled professionals are directly delineated by the Department’s core research interests, which comprehensively encompass: The state financial system and public finance. The budgetary system and state financial policy. The financial aspects of the state’s social function. The financial market and exchange operations. Fiscal policy and the tax system. Corporate finance (finance of economic entities). International financial systems.
The Department of Finance is resolutely focused on cultivating a new paradigm of specialist – one who is competent in undertaking a rigorous analysis of economic and social dynamics, thereby enabling them to formulate and execute a cohesive financial strategy crucial for the advancement of both the nation-state and the individual commercial enterprise. This commitment to nurturing highly competitive future professionals is realised through the Department’s robust educational programs at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s qualification levels.
Since its inception, the Department has successfully prepared and graduated over 5,500 finance specialists.
Presently, the Department’s teaching capacity is underpinned by 20 highly qualified specialists in the field of finance.
Educational-Professional Program, Bachelor’s Degree: “Finance”
- Curriculum Adherence: Instruction is delivered via curricula that rigorously align with the foundational requirements of the Bologna Convention.
- Pedagogical Mandate: The training strategy stipulates both a profound mathematical foundation and a high proficiency in digital literacy. This comprehensive approach is designed to cultivate a holistic professional perspective in the student, specifically within their chosen fields of clusters: “Public Finance,” “Financial Market,” and “Corporate Finance.”
Educational-Scientific Program, Master’s Degree: “Corporate Finance”
- Curriculum Focus: The program is grounded in an in-depth study of key domains, including financial management, financial reporting, investment portfolio management, information systems, and financial policy.
- Accreditation and Recognition: Since 2013, the program has been the first and only one in Ukraine to receive official recognition from the CFA Institute (a global association for investment professionals).
Educational-Scientific Program, Master’s Degree: “Public Sector Finance” (Double Degree)
- Instructional Excellence: The delivery of coursework is overseen by leading economics professors from Australia, Norway, Sweden, and other international jurisdictions.
- Qualification Outcome: Graduates achieve a significant advantage by earning two Master’s degrees – one corresponding to the state-recognised standard and another adhering to the European standard.
