D3 “Management”

The Department of Management of Innovation and Investment Activities (MIIA) fosters the development of new generations of researchers and leaders of change in the field of management.

The department’s scientific activities cover postgraduate and doctoral studies, dissertation preparation, and the publication of scientific research results in professional, international journals. The department also participates in scientific conferences, seminars and roundtables, and supports students who wish to take part in scientific paper competitions and All-Ukrainian and international Olympiads.

 

 

The scientific activity of the Department of MIIA is highly effective, as evidenced by the fact that 11 doctoral and 30 candidate theses in the field of economic sciences on topical problems of economics and management of scientific and technological progress have been defended within the scientific school of Prof. D.M. Chervanov, as have five theses for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Management.  Prof. D.M. Chervanov initiated the establishment of a unique doctoral specialised Academic Council (D26.001.12) at the university. This council brought together four areas of study, with Prof. Chervanov at the helm until 2006. Derkach (Davydova), L.V. Pashchuk, A.O. Poltoratska (Vikulova), I.P. Tymchenko, M.V. Shingur. At different times, the lecturers of the department included candidates of economic sciences M.O. Kanaeva, T.E. Petrovska, I.A. Prylutska, D.V. Cheberkus, and O.V. Chulak, as well as doctors of philosophy in management N.M. Pavlenko, A.O. Sychova.

 

Lecturers and postgraduate students actively participate in scientific and grant projects. They present research results at international conferences and win competitions and Olympiads, thereby strengthening the university’s authority in Ukraine and around the world.

Participation in scientific events

From 2021 to 2025, department lecturers and postgraduate students participated in over 320 international and all-Ukrainian conferences, seminars, and roundtables. There, they presented the results of their scientific research. Students were also actively involved in scientific work. During this period, students participated in over 70 scientific events, highlighting their strong research skills and innovative solutions to contemporary management challenges.

Success in Olympiads and Competitions

Participation in all-Ukrainian Olympiads and all-Ukrainian and international competitions for student scientific papers is an essential component of the professional development of future managers.

From 2021 to 2025, student managers were frequent winners of industry and subject Olympiads.

Winners in 2025: Anzhela Tyshchenko, Vsevolod Gorgo, and Anastasia Boeva.

Winners in 2024: Maria Pidpala, Kateryna Andrusik, Victoria Chuprun, and Anzhela Tyshchenko.

Yana Sapryha, the winner in 2021, received two first prizes: one in the All-Ukrainian Olympiad in Management and another in the All-Ukrainian Subject Olympiad in Strategic Management.

 

 

Scientific and qualification work competitions

The numerous victories in all-Ukrainian competitions of student scientific works demonstrate the students’ active engagement in scientific pursuits. From 2021 to 2025, they won 30 victories at leading Ukrainian higher education institutions, including:

In 2025, Anzhela Tyshchenko, Anastasia Boeva, and Maria Tkachenko won the first round of the All-Ukrainian Competition of Student Scientific Works in the specialization “Organizational Management.” The competition was held at leading higher education institutions in Ukraine. The students were advised by retired professors O.I. Zhylinska, V.M. Priymak, and I.M. Gorbas. Additionally, the qualification works of Anastasia Gefko and Kateryna Levchenko were awarded diplomas at the All-Ukrainian Competition of Qualification Works in the specializations “Personnel Management” and “Management Business Structures” in Kyiv.

In 2024, Maria Filonenko and Anastasia Gefko won the first round of the All-Ukrainian Competition of Student Scientific Papers in Organizational Management. They were advised by retired professors O. I. Zhylinska and L. A. Olikh, respectively.

Serhiy Zinchenko, Vadym Shmorhunenko, and Daryna Solonenko received diplomas at the All-Ukrainian Competition of Qualification Papers in Personnel and Business Structure Management. They were advised by retired associate professor T.V. Bilorus.

In 2023, the qualification works of graduates Yulia Dernova (retired prof. O.I.Zhylinska), Tetyana Stepaniuk (retired associate professor O.O.Gerasimenko) and Veronika Yakymenko (retired associate professor P.V.Kukhta) received Diplomas of the 1st and 2nd degrees of the All-Ukrainian competition of qualification works in the specializations “Personnel Management” and “Business Structure Management” (Kyiv).

In 2022, Anna Potapenko’s (former associate professor O.O. Herasimenko) scientific work won a first-degree diploma in the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific works in the field of “Personnel Management and Labor Economics” in Kharkiv. Dmytro Babenko’s (former associate professor V.G. Balan) and Viktoriya Dvornyk’s (former associate professor P.V. Kukhta) scientific works were awarded first-degree diplomas in the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific works in the specialization “Management of Investment and Innovation Activities.” Anna-Olexandra Metoshop’s (former associate professor O.G. Derkach) and Sofia Synyuk’s (former associate professor I.M. Horbas) scientific works received first- and third-degree diplomas in the All-Ukrainian competition of Student scientific works in the specialization of “Management of Organizations,” as well as qualification works by graduates Yevgenia Bazhan, Natalia Borokh (formerly associate professor K. V. Kovalska), Maria Linnyk, Valeria Pavlyuk (formerly associate professor I. M. Horbas), Marta Makhayeva, and Tetyana Olshevska (formerly associate professor O. O. Herasimenko), won the All-Ukrainian competition for students of higher educational institutions in the specializations of “Personnel Management” and “Business Structure Management” in Kyiv.

 

In 2021, the scientific works of Regina Solodarenko-Litkovska and Olena Burmistrova, both retired associate professors, were awarded first and second place diplomas at the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific works in the specialization “Management of Organizations” in Odessa. The scientific work of Lilia Ivanytska, a retired associate professor, won first place at the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific works in the specialization “Management of Investment and Innovation Activities” in Kyiv. The scientific works of Dmytro Babenko and Victoria Snityuk, both Makarchenko students, won second place at the same competition.and 2^(nd) degrees at the All-Ukrainian Competition of Student Scientific Works in the Specialization “Management in the Sphere of Economic Competition” (Poltava). Students of the specialty “Management” also represented the university well in international competitions.

 

From 2023 to 2025, Angela Tyshchenko (2023, “The Personal Context of Leadership”), Alina Onyshchenko (2024, “Women’s Leadership in an Organization as a Step Towards Ukraine’s European Integration”), and Maria Filonenko (2025, “Wartime Personnel Management in Banking Institutions”) won victories in the 1st–3rd International Competitions of Scientific Papers for Higher Education Applicants in the field of Public and Corporate Management. Professor O.I. Zhylinska was their scientific supervisor. Anastasia Kalinchuk won a second-degree diploma in the third International Competition of Scientific Papers for Higher Education Applicants in the field of Public and Corporate Management for her paper “Developing Creativity of Modern Leaders,” with Associate Professor I.M. Horbas as her scientific supervisor.

In 2023, Sofia Synyuk’s (formerly Associate Professor I. M. Horbas’) scientific work received a third-degree diploma in the International Competition “Management, Social and Behavioral Sciences in the Implementation of the Principles of Sustainable Development” in Ivano-Frankivsk.

 

Distinctions and Awards

Each year, student managers are thanked and receive certificates for their excellent reports, presentations, and creative approaches to the topic at the annual international scientific and practical conference for students, postgraduates, and young scientists, Shevchenko Spring.

The following students from the Management program were awarded in 2025: Angela Tyshchenko, Anastasia Kalinchuk, Anastasia Gefko, Viktoria Ruzhevych, Bohdana Shlyakhova, Darya Mezhenkova, and Oleksandr Nedashkivskyi. The following students were awarded in 2024: Maria Filonenko, Alina Onyshchenko, and Maria Pidpala. The following students were awarded in 2023: Kateryna Andrusik, Tetyana Stepaniuk, and Anna Troyan. The following students were awarded in 2021: Karina Vdovenko, Valeria Pavlyuk, and Viktoria Podchernyaeva.

 

Implementation of scientific topics and grants

The department’s lecturers are actively involved in the implementation of state budget and grant projects, in particular:

“Innovative mechanisms for stimulating the development of scientific and technical activities in Ukraine” (DR No. 0119U100324), scientific supervisor – Professor O.I. Zhylinska, co-executors –  Prof. M.V. Sytnytskyi, Associate Professor P.V. Kukhta;

“Development of a strategy for the internationalization of technology transfer in a transnational space” (DR No. 0121U109522), co-executor of the topic – Professor O.I. Zhylinska;

“Innovative development of management in the information society” (2016-2024, No. 16Kf040-02) – all scientific and pedagogical staff of the department;

“Strategic management of innovative activities of research universities in Ukraine” (2024) – Professor M.V. Sytnytskyi.

A special distinction for the department was the awarding of the 2024 President of Ukraine Prize for Young Scientists (Presidential Decree No. 782/2024) to Doctor of Economics, Professor M.V. Sytnytskyi.

In 2024, Prof. M.V. Sytnytskyi received a Fulbright Visiting Scholar (USA) grant for the project “Strategic Management of the Development of Research Universities” (2024-2025).

For the period 2025-2030, the department is implementing the research topic “Management of Organizations in the Conditions of a Mobilization Economy and Post-War Recovery of Ukraine” within the framework of the University’s Comprehensive Scientific Program “Modernization of Social Development of Ukraine in the Conditions of Globalization.”

The quantity and quality of the scientific and methodological works published by the department’s members confirm its high ranking in the university’s publication activity.

From 2021 to 2025, the department achieved the following: 257 scientific articles; 59 foreign publications; 188 Ukrainian professional publications; 44 Scopus MNBD articles; and 31 Web of Science MNBD articles. Eleven teachers in the department have an h-index in Scopus, confirming the international research community’s recognition of their scientific achievements. During the same period, students of the department published over 40 scientific articles and approximately 120 conference abstracts, demonstrating the research focus of the educational programs for training specialists with a higher education in Management.

The Department of Management of Innovation and Investment Activities is developing its own scientific school of management and integrating it into the global research space. Its status as a research basic structural unit of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is confirmed by its systematic participation in international projects, numerous publications, effective training of postgraduate students, early defense of dissertations, and scientific victories of students and teachers. The state certification of the HEI for conducting scientific and scientific and technical activities in the “Social” field recognized this. During this certification process, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was certified and assigned to group A. Of the 62 university departments in the “Social” field, the Department of Management of Innovation and Investment Activities led the group of departments that received state certification at level A.
