HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Insurance, Banking, and Risk Management was established during the anniversary year of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (175 years) and the Faculty of Economics (65 years). Its foundation was initiated by Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor Viktor Bazylevych, Dean of the Faculty of Economics (2003–2017). This marked the creation of the first specialized department of its kind not only within the Faculty but also in Ukraine.

The establishment of the Department was preceded by more than a decade of scholarly development and fruitful collaboration among university academics, researchers, and representatives of the national insurance community.

In April 2016, the Department of Insurance and Risk Management was reorganized and renamed the Department of Insurance, Banking, and Risk Management.

The first Head of the Department, PhD in Economics, Professor Ruslana Pikus, led it for six years. Since January 2016, the position has been held by Doctor of Economics, Professor Natalia Prykaziuk.

 

MISSION AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

 The establishment of the Department signifies the implementation of a new paradigm of professional training at the Faculty of Economics—one that integrates advanced educational technologies with the distinguished traditions of classical university education.

The Department is dedicated to preparing highly qualified professionals—economists and managers with profound expertise in finance, banking, and insurance. This mission is realized through the enhancement of both the research and professional components of education and through the alignment of educational content with international best practices and labor market needs.

The Department’s success is ensured by its highly qualified academic staff, whose members combine extensive research achievements with practical experience acquired in leading universities, regulatory bodies of the financial market, and major financial and non-financial corporations. Their scholarly competence and professional dedication are reflected in the innovative teaching methods employed in the Department’s courses.

The Department’s academic community includes prominent scholars and practitioners whose research interests are directly connected with the development of the financial services market, the evolution of the national insurance and banking systems, and the advancement of risk management frameworks in Ukraine’s financial sector. The Department also takes pride in its dynamic cohort of talented young researchers.
