The department\u2019s academic staff comprises 22 members, including eight Doctors of Sciences (DSc) in Economics, seven Professors, twelve PhDs in Economics, seven Associate Professors and five Assistants. The department is home to numerous distinguished scholars, including one Honoured Economist of Ukraine, one Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine, four State Prize Laureates of Ukraine in Science and Technology, one laureate of the Tugan-Baranovsky Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, one laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the Field of Education, two recipients of the Excellence in Education award and one Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine. Throughout its history, the department has been and remains a powerful centre for fundamental economic research, evidenced by the formation and development of research schools that are recognised both in Ukraine and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two distinguished research schools<\/strong> have been established and are actively developing within the department, led by professors from the Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>\u00abTheoretical and methodological problems in the development of the history of economic doctrines, macro- and microeconomics in the context of the latest paradigmatic shifts\u00bb.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Founder: V. Bazylevych, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, DSc in Economics, Professor.<\/p>\n<p>Head: A. Ignatyuk, DSc in Economics, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Professor at the Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> \u00abDevelopment and transformation of economic systems\u00bb.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Founder: A. Chukhno, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, DSc in Economics, Professor.<\/p>\n<p>Head: V. Osetskyi, DSc in Economics, Professor and Professor at the Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On 31 October 2023, the research school \u00abDevelopment and transformation of economic systems\u00bb underwent its attestation at a meeting of the Faculty of Economics\u2019 Academic Council. The Academic Council formally attested and approved the school\u2019s research programme, taking into account its development prospects in line with priority research areas (Decision of the Faculty\u2019s Academic Council, Protocol No. 4 of 31 October 2023).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On 15 April 2025, the research school \u00abTheoretical and methodological problems in the development of the history of economic doctrines, macro- and microeconomics in the context of the latest paradigmatic shifts\u00bb was attested at a meeting of the Faculty\u2019s Academic Council. The Academic Council attested and approved the school\u2019s research programme, considering its future development in accordance with priority research directions (Decision of the Faculty\u2019s Academic Council, Protocol No. 12 of 15 April 2025). On 22 May 2025, this research school was successfully attested at a meeting of the University\u2019s Scientific and Expert Council.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The department continuously works to actively integrate the latest scientific achievements in the fields of economic theory, macro- and microeconomics, and other leading areas of modern fundamental economic science into the educational process. The research efforts of the department\u2019s academic staff and its constituent research groups are focused on the development of the <strong>following topical scientific areas:<\/strong> economic and philosophical problematics; methodology and paradigmatic shifts in 21st-century economic theory; transformation of modern economic systems in the context of globalisation; globalisation processes and their impact on the economy of Ukraine; theoretical and methodological problems of macroeconomics and economic policy; an investment- and innovation-led model for the development of Ukraine\u2019s economy; theory of sectoral markets; theory of the information and service economy; historical and economic studies of global and Ukrainian economic thought; current issues in the economics of the wartime period, reconstruction and recovery of the Ukrainian economy<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As part of the comprehensive scientific programme of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, \u00abModernisation of Ukraine\u2019s societal development within the context of globalisation processes\u00bb the department\u2019s academic staff is conducting <strong>the fundamental research project 22\u041a\u0424040-03, titled <em>\u00abModernisation of the national economy in the context of global challenges and information-technology changes\u00bb<\/em><\/strong>. The project runs from January 2022 to December 2026. The principal investigator is A. Khodzhaian, DSc in Economics, Professor and Head of the Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics. Within this departmental research theme, a framework is being developed for the methodological and conceptual foundations of a comprehensive study of socio-economic modernisation processes in Ukraine, defining their content, main directions and determinants.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From 2016 to 2021, the department\u2019s staff conducted research under the theme 16\u041a\u0424040-05, \u00ab<em>Conceptual foundations and the institutional dimension of Ukraine\u2019s modern macroeconomic strategy<\/em><em>\u00bb.<\/em> This project involved developing the conceptual and methodological principles for shaping Ukraine\u2019s macroeconomic strategy in the context of its economic system\u2019s transformation, identifying the main challenges and contradictions of its implementation and revealing the influence mechanism of institutional factors. During the 2016-2021 period, in the course of carrying out the aforementioned research, the department\u2019s staff published 40 single-authored and collective monographs, 8 textbooks, 10 study guides and 358 articles, of which 65 were in journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science international scientometric databases. These findings were presented in a concentrated form in the departmental monograph, \u00abEconomic development of Ukraine: conceptual foundations and institutional dimension\u00bb (Kyiv: Lira-K Publishing House, 2022, 430 pp.).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2025 alone, the department\u2019s lecturers published 2 co-authored monographs and 52 articles. Of these articles, 33 were in professional Ukrainian journals and 30 were in publications indexed in international scientometric databases. Sixteen articles were published in foreign journals indexed in these databases, including 9 articles in Scopus-indexed journals and 6 articles in Web of Science-indexed journals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The department is responsible for the training of <strong>highly qualified academic personnel<\/strong>, including PhD candidates and doctoral researchers, in the specialty 08.00.01 \u2013 Economic Theory and History of Economic Thought. As of 2025, there are 11 PhD candidates studying at the department, 9 of whom are in the full-time, state-funded programme.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The department\u2019s staff actively participates in organising and conducting numerous scientific events, including international scientific and practical conferences, scientific round tables and international forums.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In May 2024, to mark the 190th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the 80th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics, the department co-organised the <strong>International Forum EFBM 3.0 <\/strong><strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>ECONOMY. FINANCE<\/strong><strong>S<\/strong><strong>. BUSINESS. MANAGEMENT. From Recovery to Growth<\/strong>\u00bb. The forum created a broad platform for combining knowledge, ideas and opportunities to ensure economic development and effective governance, targeting the educational and scientific communities of Ukraine and abroad, as well as business, public authorities and civil society organisations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On 22 May 2024, as part of the EFBM 3.0 International Forum, the Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics participated in the preparation and organisation of the <strong>research section<\/strong> <strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong><em>Paradigmatic shifts in the 21st century economic theory<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00bb.<\/em><\/strong> The content of the research section focused on discussing the most pressing problems of modern fundamental economic-theoretical research, as well as urgent issues of economic policy that have significant scientific and practical importance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The departmental research section was attended by specialists from 25 higher education institutions in Ukraine and abroad, research institutions of the NASU and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. Abstracts and presentation summaries were submitted by 64 participants, including 17 university staff members and 13 staff from NASU research institutions. Among the leading scholars were 1 Academician of the NASU, 1 Corresponding Member of the NASU and 37 professors. This scientific exchange, consolidation and coordination of research efforts among academics from higher education institutions in Ukraine and abroad, research institutions, economists, practitioners and representatives of state economic management, business and public circles serve as an effective form of collaborative search for solutions to urgent scientific and practical problems, ensuring the stability and development of the national economy under martial law and during the period of post-war socio-economic modernisation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Under the guidance of the academic staff of the Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics, undergraduate and postgraduate students actively participate in scientific work. This includes participation in the department\u2019s sectional meeting of the annual <strong><em>International scientific and practical conference for students, postgraduates and young scientists, \u00abShevchenkivska Vesna: Economics\u00bb<\/em><\/strong> in the field of \u00abEconomic theory and economic policy\u00bb and publishing their reports in the thematic scientific collection.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From 2017 to 2020, the department was the host institution for the <strong>second round of the All-Ukrainian Competition of Student Research Papers in the specialisation <\/strong><strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>Economics and economic policy<\/strong><strong>\u00bb.<\/strong> In the subsequent period, leading academic staff from the department have traditionally played an active role in the work of the competition\u2019s sectoral committee.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students in the educational programmes of the Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics are active participants and <em>winners of All-Ukrainian Student Olympiads and All-Ukrainian and International competitions of student research papers in economics and economic policy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<div id=\"gtx-trans\" style=\"position: absolute; left: -73px; top: 9.15179px;\">\n<div class=\"gtx-trans-icon\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Economic Theory, Macro- and Microeconomics is a formidable scientific collective within the Faculty of Economics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
